Who this course is for
Lift planners, appointed persons, lifting supervisors and coordinators, and experienced lifting personnel developing their planning responsibilities.
Familiarity with lifting terminology, basic calculations and technical English will help you get the most from the course. Course suitability and any entry requirements will be confirmed before booking.

Course content
Responsibilities and lifting principles
Terminology, the lifting team, regulation and standards context, and lift categorisation.
Slings and lifting accessories
Wire rope, textile and chain slings, shackles, eyebolts, hooks, hoists and other accessories, including markings and visual inspection principles.
Load and sling calculations
Weight, volume, density, centre of gravity, sling geometry, angles, tension and working-load considerations.
Crane selection and configuration
Crane types, operating radius, capacity charts, working range, setup, ground support and pre-use checks.
Risk assessment and lift planning
Hazards and controls, method statements, ground conditions, rigging studies, weather, communications and planning documents.
Applied planning cases
Worked scenarios involving a precast office, a roof-mounted chiller and a chemical vessel, using crane information and site constraints.
Offshore lifting operations
Offshore crane types, inspections, marine and proximity hazards, vessel conditions, rating charts, indicators and tandem lifting.
Golden rules and course review
Planning and communication, exclusion zones, stop-and-replan decisions, consolidation and final assessment.

After the course, we may invite you to share how you have used the learning. Responding is optional. Additional support is available by separate agreement, with its scope, availability and fee confirmed before it begins.
Assessment and certificate
Demonstrate your understanding.
The course concludes with a monitored digital assessment. The pass mark is 70%. Successful learners receive an i Train Hub course certificate titled Competent Person for Lifting Operations (CPLO).
Assessment timing, learner instructions and retake arrangements will be provided before enrolment.
Four days at six hours per day, including breaks: 24 scheduled hours in total. Session times and breaks will be confirmed before enrolment. The online course focuses on planning knowledge and casework. Any workplace appointment or practical competence requirements need to be considered separately.
